Phnom Penh Safari | 1 Day Trip

This park or ZOO, whatever. I have enjoyed it very much. For the first time, I have explored here how animals can make people happy with great training. Imagine!
They (Park management) are very responsible for taking care of animals, I am impressed! So, let’s start to explore Phnom Penh Safari.

Perfect Time to Visit

If you’re planning a trip to Phnom Penh Safari, timing is everything! Here’s my take on the best times to go:

Dry Season (November to March) – Ideal Weather
The dry season is perfect. From November to February, the weather is cooler, making it way more comfortable to walk around and see the animals. Plus, the skies are clear, so you get great views. March is still nice, but it starts warming up.

Rainy Season (April to October) – Lush, but Wet
Visiting during the rainy season? It’s quieter, and the park turns into this lush green paradise, but keep in mind the heat and occasional showers. April and May can be super humid, but you’ll avoid the crowds.

Best Time of Day

Try to visit early in the morning or later in the afternoon. It’s cooler, and the animals are more active—plus, you avoid the midday heat.

Morning (8-10 AM): Perfect for catching lions and tigers being active.
Afternoon (4-6 PM): Great for a cooler, calmer vibe.
Insider Tip: Weekdays are less crowded, and if you’re into special shows or feeding times, they’re usually in the morning or early afternoon!

Nearby Stay

To arrive at this safari on time, you should stay at the Phnom Penh City Center. There are many hotels available, and you can book a room for a reasonable price through an online booking platform. The zoo is mostly about a 30-minute drive from Phnom Penh City Center if the road doesn’t have any traffic. Here have best 2 suggestions for you,

Dara Airport Hotel is about 30 minutes away from the safari. It’s a solid choice if you’re flying in or out of Phnom Penh. The place has modern rooms, free Wi-Fi, a pool, and even a fitness center. Plus, the breakfast buffet is pretty good. It’s all about convenience and comfort here.

Sunway Hotel Phnom Penh is a bit farther—around 40 minutes from the safari—but it’s worth it if you’re looking for a touch of luxury. It’s right in the heart of the city, so you can explore other parts of Phnom Penh easily. The hotel has elegant rooms, a great restaurant, and a spa, making it a nice spot to unwind after a day at the park.

Or if you want to stay near the Zoo or a tighter budget, Borey Phnom Penh Safari is just 15 minutes from the safari. It’s a no-frills guesthouse that’s clean and affordable. If you want to stay close to the park without breaking the bank, this place is a practical choice.

If you’re visiting during the peak season (November to February), it’s a good idea to book your stay in advance. And, if possible, check if the hotel offers a shuttle to the safari to make things easier.

Top Attractions

This zoo is beautifully constructed both from the outside and inside. Its construction can attract tourists from any country, without a doubt. Additionally, the zoo offers a variety of interesting animal shows that are sure to captivate visitors. You’ll never feel bored there. So, let’s see what awaits you inside this zoo.

For going inside, you have to buy a ticket and the lists of all shows with time.

Tiger Show

Upon entering the zoo, I was welcomed by an orangutan wearing a red bikini. It hugged me and even tried to kiss me! (Imagine how weird that was 😂).

After escaping from the orangutan, I proceeded to join the tiger show, which was quite impressive as there were six real tigers. Yes, you heard that correctly—six real tigers! It was incredible! I visited on February 14th, 2024, so the place was a bit busy. Nevertheless, we thoroughly enjoyed the show. The tigers also performed with fire and in many other ways.

Bird’s Show

After the incredible tiger show, about 10 to 15 minutes later, a bird show began. It featured various kinds of birds such as the Red-Breasted Parakeet, Cambodian Tailorbird, and more. During the show, birds would come and collect money from your hand, which was also interesting.

Ride an Elephant in the Jungle

After the bird show, I went to explore the jungle on the back of an elephant. It was my first time driving an elephant.

Mixed Animal Show

This show featured monkeys, goats, and others. Unfortunately, I found this show boring because there weren’t enough fun or trained animals. So, I decided to skip it and joined the next show 15 minutes later.

Elephant Show

This was quite interesting. The elephant played football, cricket, showcased fireworks, and even performed as an artist. It was truly impressive.

Crocodile Show

This show wasn’t very interesting due to the lazy crocodile, but it was sometimes scary. The host would place his hand in the crocodile’s mouth, and suddenly pull it out just as the crocodile’s mouth began to close. Terrifying!

Orangutan Show

After the Crocodile Show, I had to walk to arrive at this show. Along the walkway, I encountered two giraffes and gave them some vegetables that I bought there. Bananas were also available. After that, I continued walking and finally arrived at the Orangutan Show. It turned out to be the best show of the day. Their costumes were just insane, haha.

The orangutan performed as a WWE fighter 😂, dancer, cyclist, and more.

Is This Safari Expensive?

Absolutely not! The safari only charges $5 for entrance per adult person, and you can enjoy all the shows. If you’re asked to pay for any food or additional services, those will be extra charges. Based on my experience, it’s very affordable. You definitely should visit!

Unforgettable Safari Tips

I just want to share few tips but important, you will not get anywhere else:

  • Go in the morning at 10 am or preferably before 12 pm if you don’t want to miss any single show.
