On the same day, we visited two iconic spots that capture the essence of Chiang Rai: Wat Huay Pla Kang and Lalitta Cafe. With half a day in hand, we managed to see both, making it a fulfilling and beautiful adventure. Let’s dive into these places together!
Wat Huay Pla Kang
Nestled just outside Chiang Rai, Wat Huay Pla Kang feels like a hidden gem waiting to be discovered. This temple blends Thai and Chinese architecture, creating a tranquil sanctuary. Upon arrival, the striking 9-tiered pagoda greets you, rising into the sky surrounded by lush greenery. But the star attraction is the towering Guan Yin statue, standing at an impressive 69 meters (226 feet), exuding peace and calmness. I couldn’t help but feel the serene energy as I gazed up at this magnificent statue.
The temple grounds are stunning, filled with intricate dragon sculptures, vibrant designs, and serene corners perfect for reflection. Climbing to the top of the pagoda is a must—you’re rewarded with panoramic views of the surrounding countryside, a photographer’s dream!
Location
Wat Huay Pla Kang is located about 6 kilometers from Chiang Rai’s center, making it an easy escape from the city’s hustle. Though it’s a newer temple, its blend of cultures speaks to unity and harmony. [Google Map]
Best Time to Visit
Visiting early in the morning or late afternoon is ideal. The mornings bring a refreshing breeze, while the late afternoon bathes the temple in warm, golden light, perfect for a magical experience.
Entrance Cost
The best part? Visiting this stunning temple is free! There’s a small fee if you want to ride the elevator up the Guan Yin statue for a more incredible view, but overall, it’s an affordable and breathtaking experience.
Lalitta Cafe
After exploring the temple, Lalitta Cafe is a perfect retreat to relax and unwind. The moment I stepped in, I felt the calming atmosphere thanks to its open design, where natural light pours in through large glass windows. The café is surrounded by lush greenery and a small pond, creating a peaceful vibe that complements the tranquility of Wat Huay Pla Kang.
Sipping on a fresh coffee while gazing at the serene surroundings felt like a beautiful escape from the world. It’s one of those places that instantly lifts your spirits, and trust me, this café is even better than my ex. Haha!
Location
Located just a short drive from Chiang Rai’s city center, Lalitta Cafe is easy to reach, yet it feels like a hidden retreat far from the city buzz. [Google Map]
