The Blue Temple | 1-Day Trip

After a day in Chiang Rai, I started my next morning with a visit to the famous Blue Temple before heading to Chiang Mai for the Elephant Sanctuary and an adventurous ziplining experience at Phoenix Adventure. Let’s dive into this exciting day!

Wat Rong Suea Ten (Blue Temple)

Wat Rong Suea Ten, or the Blue Temple, is truly a feast for the eyes. Its stunning blue exterior, adorned with intricate gold details, stands out like a jewel against the lush greenery. The design blends modern touches with traditional Lanna architecture, making it impossible not to admire the elaborate murals that tell captivating Buddhist stories.

Completed in 2016 by local artist Phuttha Kabkaew, the temple captures the essence of Thai culture and spirituality in a fresh and innovative way.

Perfect Time to Visit
The best times to visit are early morning or late afternoon, when the sunlight makes the colors po. Giving the temple a magical feel. Plus, there’s no entrance fee. Trust me, visiting Wat Rong Suea Ten is an experience you won’t want to miss!

Elephant Sanctuary

For an up-close and personal experience with elephants, Maetaeng Elephant Park in Chiang Mai is a perfect choice. This heartwarming haven for rescued elephants is nestled in the lush hills, surrounded by stunning natural scenery of dense forests and flowing rivers, making you feel deeply connected to nature.

After paying the fee, we were picked up and headed to the jungle, where the elephants stay. Upon arrival, I fed them pumpkins and prepared food, followed by a delightful shower in the river with them. However, I faced a little mishap—my iPhone fell into the river! I retrieved it, but the water damaged the motherboard. So do be careful with your belongings while you’re there. After our shower, we returned to the pickup point by boat and then by car.

How Much Does It Cost?

Initially quoted at 2,000 Baht, I managed to bargain it down to 1,000 Baht, which included:

  1. Local lunch
  2. Local dress (shorts and sandals)
  3. Pickup and drop-off service for the jungle visit
  4. Feeding the elephants and showering with them in the river

Most half-day tours cost around 2,500 to 3,000 Baht, covering transportation, a guide, and snacks. Visiting the sanctuary isn’t just about seeing the elephants; it’s about learning how to care for them and understanding their importance in Thai culture. You’ll leave with a heart full of joy!
