3-Day Exploration in Hanoi

3 Days in Hanoi

After an exciting time in Da Nang, we caught an early morning flight to Hanoi, the bustling capital of Vietnam. This city is a captivating blend of traditional culture and modern energy, and we were excited to dive right in. Our 3-Day Exploration in Hanoi focused on three famous spots that capture the essence of Hanoi and its surrounding beauty: Hanoi Train Street, Ha Long Bay, and Bach Long Glass Bridge.

Ha Long Bay: Nature’s Masterpiece

Of all the places we visited, Ha Long Bay left the most lasting impression. It’s honestly one of the most stunning landscapes I’ve ever seen. Picture emerald-green waters dotted with towering limestone islands—it felt like stepping into another world. Cruising through the bay was nothing short of magical. We passed by hidden caves, floating fishing villages, and surreal rock formations that have been shaped over millions of years.

As the sun began to set, the bay transformed, glowing in a golden hue that was simply breathtaking. This moment, with the calm waters reflecting the fading light, was unforgettable. If you’re ever in Vietnam, this spot is a must-see.

A Bumpy Start in Hanoi

Before diving into the magic of Hanoi, I have to share a bit of a rough experience we encountered. Finding the right accommodation turned out to be more of a hassle than expected. After some confusion and frustration with our initial hotel booking, we eventually found a decent place further from the main road. Though this ordeal dampened our spirits that day, the trip still had plenty of highlights ahead.

Hanoi Train Street: A Unique Experience

In the afternoon, we headed to Hanoi Train Street, a well-known spot among travelers. It’s famous for its narrow railway, flanked by coffee shops and drink stalls. The atmosphere is lively, especially in the afternoons when the street fills up with tourists eager to watch the train zoom by.

Sitting at one of the cafés along the tracks, sipping on a Vietnamese coffee while waiting for the train, is an experience unlike any other. When the train finally comes through, the locals casually move their stools out of the way, which is fascinating to witness! Between trains, you can relax, chat with the friendly locals, and take in the lively atmosphere.

While I found it more of a spectacle than an experience, it’s definitely worth a visit to see the sheer energy of the place.

Location:
Hanoi Train Street is hidden in the Old Quarter, near Phung Hung and Le Duan Streets. The most popular stretch, where the train comes super close to homes and shops, is around 120-124 Le Duan. It’s easy to find, just a short walk from Hoan Kiem Lake. The best part? Visiting this spot is totally free unless you decide to grab a drink or snack from the cafés along the tracks.

Ha Long Bay: A Journey Through Nature

The next day, we embarked on a day trip to Ha Long Bay, and it felt like stepping into a postcard. The emerald-green water, scattered with towering limestone islands, is a sight that truly takes your breath away. The experience of cruising through these stunning formations, discovering hidden caves, and watching the sunset cast a golden glow over the bay was surreal. Ha Long Bay is one of those places that leaves a deep imprint on your heart. It’s impossible not to be mesmerized by its natural beauty.

Bach Long Glass Bridge: A Walk Above the Clouds

On our final day, we explored the Bach Long Glass Bridge, a heart-pounding adventure that provided a different kind of thrill. As the world’s longest glass bridge, it offers an unforgettable experience of walking in the air with panoramic views of valleys and lush forests beneath. There’s a mix of excitement and tranquility as you take in the views—it’s a perfect spot for those who love a bit of adrenaline and breathtaking landscapes.

Final Thoughts on Our Hanoi Adventure

Our 3-day adventure in Hanoi was the highlight of our Vietnam journey. Each day offered a different, yet equally magical experience. From the excitement of watching trains speed through Hanoi Train Street, to the awe-inspiring landscapes of Ha Long Bay, and the thrill of crossing the Bach Long Glass Bridge, Hanoi left us with unforgettable memories. This city’s unique blend of old-world charm and modern vibrance made every moment feel like a new discovery. Vietnam, especially Hanoi, will always hold a special place in my travel diary.
